graduated from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, with a PhD in Geology and Natural Sciences. He has more than 45 years of worldwide experience in the field of hydropower generation, complex underground works especially tunnels and renewable energy storage (pump storage solutions and green H2).
Dr. Nagel has participated in all phases of the design of medium and large hydroelectric projects, design of hydraulic bypass and regulation structures as well as supervision of their construction. Also worth mentioning is his outstanding knowledge of design and construction supervision of underground works.

He has held positions as Executive Director at Lahmeyer International, Fichtner, and Elektrowatt (now AFRY), overseeing the design and construction of ~13,800 MW and over 900 km of tunnels between the Andes, the Himalayas, and the European Alps. Dr. Nagel’s greatest strength is the combination of his geotechnical knowledge and extensive experience in hydraulic engineering. This allows him to foresee potential geological risks related to hydropower construction with a focus on underground works.
